Man, I agree with pretty much everything you said. I've listened to this once though, only, but I felt similarly. I think they are super creative and hard to put a finger on. I think their aesthetic is cool, and the vocalist is definitely front and center. I've seen memes making fun of the guitarist standing around for 7 minutes before he gets to play, haha. Caramel is my favorite track for sure.
I heard them first a few years ago and a lot of comparisons to Deftones. Their older stuff has some of those influences, I'd say this new album probably has some similarities to Crosses more than Deftones.
